Garden Design 3-Term Courses

I For beginners who want to design their own gardens and/or pursue an interest in garden design

II  For advanced students who wish to learn professional design and gardening techniques, and improve their plant knowledge

Classes are small and informal, and held at my home in Slimbridge, in local gardens and in students' gardens

Time:  9.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m.
Cost:  £350 per term

On the Beginners Course, students will learn how to measure up and draw gardens to scale, and how to design them. 

They will also learn the Principles of Design and the basics of hard landscaping.

In Plant Planning, students learn how to plan beds and borders based on plant texture, shape and colour.

Simple graphics to illustrate the garden designs are combined with more border planning.

 A practical is held at a local garden centre on combining plants, always a very popular exercise.

Cost:  £350 per term

Building on the knowledge gained in the first year, students will design gardens in the locality of Slimbridge, produce planting plans, visuals and design reports.  Garden management and practical work will also feature strongly on this course.

Half-Day Advanced Plant Planning

The aim of the workshops is for students to do research on plants for particular positions, especially tricky ones, and to produce planting plans or plant lists to include their characteristics through the year, good companions and effective groups of 3 and/or 5.  The outcome will be a comprehensive plant portfolio for every situation.
